Shannon Dosemagen, Louisiana Bucket Brigade
New Orleans, Louisiana
Shannon was very passionate about her work and explained to us the severity of the oil spill's impacts - in particular the negative health impacts many were experiencing as a result of the oil spill. In researching for our trip we had found out about Shannon’s organization – the Louisiana Bucket Brigade. We were extremely impressed by the "Oil Spill Crisis Map" she and her colleagues created which allows citizens to submit reports via text, web or email on the damage/impacts they are witnessing and experiencing because of the oil spill. The alerts then appear on a web based map of the gulf coast alerting officials and the public of the extent of the damage. We dropped by the Bucket Brigade's Canal street office in New Orleans and were greeted by Shannon the Bucket Brigade's Member Action Associate and a resident of New Orleans.
